Description
Asplenium nidus grows in a rosette of broad, wavy-edged, apple-green fronds that unfurl from a central “nest” — no fine lacy leaflets to fuss over here, just simple, glossy, sculptural foliage. It reads more architectural than most ferns.
That structure also makes it more forgiving than a lot of its fern relatives; the solid fronds hold moisture better and do not shred or brown as easily. It is a good pick for someone who wants fern texture without quite so much fern drama.
Care
- Medium, indirect light suits it best
- Water when the top inch of soil is dry; avoid getting water in the central rosette
- Appreciates humidity but tolerates average home conditions better than most ferns
- Pet friendly and safe to keep within reach of curious animals
