Description
Strelitzia nicolai brings serious jungle energy — huge, paddle-shaped leaves on long stems that can eventually reach the ceiling in the right spot. It is the plant we point to when someone says they want their living room to feel like a greenhouse.
It wants more sun than most houseplants, and a bit more patience too; young plants can take a couple years to really get going. Once established, though, it is a workhorse, and a mature specimen can even flower indoors given enough light.
Care
- Direct sun for at least part of the day — the brightest window in the house
- Water when the top few inches of soil dry out; less in winter
- Enjoys higher humidity but adapts to typical home conditions
- Toxic to pets if chewed
