Description
Hoya kerrii, the sweetheart hoya, is best known for its thick, waxy, heart-shaped leaves — a single leaf cutting is often sold on its own as a novelty, though it takes real patience to grow one of those into a full trailing vine. Ours are further along than that and already climbing.
It is a succulent at heart, storing water in those firm leaves, which makes it forgiving of an owner who travels or simply forgets. Given a few years and consistent light, it will eventually send out long vines and, with luck, clusters of star-shaped flowers.
Care
- Bright, indirect light; a bit of gentle direct sun is fine
- Water only once the soil has dried out most of the way through
- Tolerates average home humidity without any special fuss
- Pet friendly, a safe trailing option for homes with cats and dogs

The little hearts are even cuter in person. Slow grower as advertised but mine put out a new vine this spring.
